Day 1: Hike to Camp

Our adventure begins at 8:00 am from our office in Antigua Guatemala, where you can prepare by filling up water bottles or grabbing any last-minute essentials. After a one-hour drive to the mountain village of La Soledad, we’ll start our ascent up Acatenango Volcano. This diverse trail takes us through four unique microclimates, each revealing a different side of Guatemala’s natural beauty.

The hike begins in the fertile farm fields where locals cultivate corn, peas, and lilies—a great warm-up for the journey ahead. From here, we enter an ancient tropical cloud forest, rich with biodiversity and home to some of Guatemala’s oldest trees and exotic wildlife, including the elusive Quetzal. You’ll be surrounded by fresh mountain air and the sounds of native birds.

After leaving the cloud forest, panoramic views open up, revealing the volcanic highlands, including peaks like Atitlán, Tolimán, and San Pedro, as well as the distant Cuchumatanes mountains. Here, we’ll take a break for a fresh picnic lunch prepared for our group. Our path then leads through coniferous and dry forests, bringing us to the tree line and our campsite at ~3,750m, with sweeping views of Volcán Fuego and the Antigua valley. Relax and unwind while our guide prepares a hot dinner with tea and coffee to keep you cozy.

Day 2: Summit Acatenango

The next morning, fueled by an early breakfast, we set out on a final 45-minute hike to Acatenango’s summit. The path becomes steeper, traversing sandy scree and high-altitude mosses as we approach the peak. At the top, we’ll experience stunning, 360-degree views of the Guatemalan highlands stretching all the way to Mexico. After taking time to enjoy the breathtaking scenery, we’ll descend through a scenic alternate route back to La Soledad.

Our tour concludes with a drive back to Antigua, arriving around 1:00 pm, giving you the afternoon to relax and explore the beautiful colonial town.
