As we leave behind the charming streets of Antigua, our rugged vehicle will navigate through rustic towns, immersing you in the authentic essence of local life. Transitioning from smooth roads to rugged terrain, we’ll arrive at the entrance of a farm nestled at the foot of Volcán Acatenango. Brace yourself as we traverse challenging terrain, conquering hills and valleys along the way.

Cutting down the typical hike time by 3½ hours, our alternative route offers breathtaking views and an easier ascent to the summit. At an elevation of 11,483 feet (3,500 meters), we’ll leave our vehicle behind and prepare for an unforgettable experience.

Day 1: Hike to Camp

With sturdy hiking shoes and adventurous spirits, we’ll embark on a moderate trail, winding through diverse forests shaped by past wildfires. Along the way, catch glimpses of Volcán Agua and the mesmerizingly active Volcán Fuego, towering over the Antigua valley.

Our campsite, nestled below the tree line, offers panoramic views of the valley and Volcán Fuego. After setting up camp, unwind and soak in the stunning surroundings. Our knowledgeable guide will prepare a hearty camp dinner with hot drinks, providing the perfect opportunity to savor the tranquility of the wilderness.

Day 2: Summiting Acatenango

Rise with the sun! After a hearty camp breakfast, we embark on a challenging ascent to the summit. The trail is steep, adorned with sand, gravel, and alpine vegetation. As we conquer the summit, panoramic views of the Guatemalan highlands await, stretching all the way to the Mexican border.

After relishing the summit experience, we begin our descent, followed by another thrilling 4X4 adventure back to Antigua. Arriving around mid-day, you’ll have ample time to explore the charms of this colonial capital.
