Altún Ha is a small but very important archaeological place from the ceremonial and strategic point of view. Located 50 kilometers from the City of Belize, the place is divided into two groups: Plaza A and Plaza B, each with its particular attractions. In the square A you can find the mysterious Temple of the Green Tomb where jade, jewels and flints were found.
In the Plaza we can find the largest structure of the place: The Temple Altars of the Masonry, with a height of more than 18 meters above the Plaza. It’s believed that the place was one of the most important ceremonial centers of the Mayan civilization, since among the treasures found is the famous head of Kinich Ahau made with 5 kilograms of pure jade carved in the shape of the head of the Sun God. This authentic treasure is part of the design of the local currency.
